Colonie Senior Service Centers’ Premier, Affordable Senior Housing Project APPROVED

At the Planning Board meeting held at the Town Public Operations Center, 347 Old Niskayuna Road, Colonie Senior Service Centers’ premier, affordable, 55 plus senior housing project at 17 Elks Lane in Latham received FINAL APPROVAL!

This senior living community will provide beautiful one and two bedroom apartments for seniors who may not be able to afford market rate senior housing nor do they qualify for subsidized housing. The 96 apartment homes include heat and hot water included in the rent, and a media package to further help with household expenses.

“There is nothing like this offered in our community”, said Ed Neary, Executive Director, CSSC. “We have market rate and subsidized apartments available, but there is a great need for those people who fall in the middle of the spectrum. That is why this affordable community is important, we must take care of those who cared for us.”

After several years in the approval process, CSSC received final Town and Planning Board approval and expects to break ground this May. Planning for this started in 2006 as the organization began to set aside funds for the preliminary development costs. In 2012, CSSC informed the Town Administration of the plans and negotiated an agreement to buy land from the Elks.

Colonie Senior Service Centers is an independent, community based non-profit serving the largest population of seniors in the Capital District.
