Bags & Bling Funds Shelter for Women & Children

St. Paul’s Center, a Rensselaer-based emergency shelter for mothers and their children, is holding its highly anticipated event, “For the Love of Bags & Bling” on Jul. 25 at the Zaloga American Legion Post on Everett Rd., 5:30-8:30pm. “It is possible that the purchase of a rarely-used designer bag could cover a child’s shelter, food and services for a week. Last year’s event raised enough money to cover the unreimbursed shelter expenses for five families of three – five moms and ten kids – for 40 days. We had 100% occupancy last year so the need was significant,” explains Tracy Pitcher, the Center’s executive director.

The event includes new and gently-used handbags, scarves, jewelry and other accessories, raffles, and a silent auction. Auction items include items donated by local businesses including movie tickets, spa treatments, and family activities. Tickets are only $10 and all proceeds benefit St Paul’s Center and the families who rely on them for shelter, services and support. For further information, visit www.stpaulscenter.com or the Center’s Facebook page.

St Paul’s Center opened its doors in 2006 and has since served over 2,200 mothers and children who did not have a place to call home. The highly successful 12 month after-shelter case management program, Bridges, is offered to those leaving shelter to ensure families do not return to homelessness. This program has been successful for over 95% of participating families.
