Tech-Savvy Seniors Attend Cyber Safety Seminar

Residents at Shaker Pointe at Carondelet attended a Cyber Safety, How to Keep Safe in a Connected World seminar earlier today where they learned about what to do to ensure safety online, but also what to look out for in terms of internet danger. The active living community for individuals 55 and older hosted the event as they say residents are more connected to technology than ever.

The cyber safety seminar featured Center for Internet Security Vice President of Operations James Globe who spoke about best practices for safely browsing the web and online shopping, the importance of passwords, email safety and keeping cellphones and other electronic devices protected.

The Center is a local community-driven nonprofit whose mission is to make the connected world a safer place.

Lillian James is a four-year resident at Shaker Pointe who utilizes the internet for various reasons such as keeping in touch with family and online shopping.

“I came today mainly to learn how to stop online hacking before it even starts,” said James. “It is just wonderful that Shaker Pointe offers residents seminars such as this to make sure we are not only safe but educated.”
