aratoga National Historical Park announces weekday road closure of the Tour Road, will resume after Labor Day. These closures are a part of the multi-year project to rehabilitate the interpretive battlefield experience.
The project focuses on improving accessibility and interpretation of the Saratoga Battlefield. The work includes rehabilitating all the parking areas and pathways at all the tour stops to address deferred maintenance, improve accessibility, and replace the aging waysides exhibits to enhance the interpretation experience of the battlefield.
Starting September 6th, the Tour Road will be closed during the week to all traffic including; vehicles, pedestrians and bicycles. It will be available on weekends through the normal seasonal Tour Road Closure December 1st. The South Entrance Parking area will be used as a construction staging area and will be partially closed for the duration of the project. Capacity will be reduced, but limited parking and access to the horse trail will be available. The closures are in place for the safety of park visitors and to allow for the work to be completed faster.
The battlefield grounds can be accessed by foot via the Wilkinson Trail at the Visitor Center. Slight alterations to the route of the Trail have been made around active construction areas at Tour Stop 6. Please respect all closures and follow posted signage. Equestrians may use the lower visitor center parking area for their trailers and access the Horse Trail via the Entrance Road. Visitors should use caution when crossing the Tour Road and look for construction vehicles traveling in both directions and passing through Tour Stops actively under construction.
For your safety and for the safety of the construction personnel, please adhere to the construction closures and follow instructions from park staff and contractors.
