February 23, 2022Next Weekend We’re Heading Back to the Roaring ’20s!
Albany Symphony Spotlight
Today may have gotten up into the 50s, but next weekend we’re going back to the Roaring ’20s! (Figuratively. Fingers crossed for no more snow and ice!)
Don’t miss the long-awaited return of pianist and leading Gershwin interpreter Kevin Cole as he joins us for some of the greatest jazz band charts ever written. You can even join us from afar thanks to a recently added streaming option.
Of course, today’s warm-up couldn’t come soon enough as many of us still have chills from last Saturday’s concert. If you missed it (or just want to watch and listen again!) scroll on for a clip from Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6. Plus, our next Convergence event, and an announcement from our friends at WMHT. Enjoy!
CONVERGENCE EVENT
Gone in a Phrase of Air
Wednesday, February 23
5:00pm-6:30pm
Palace Theatre
You’re invited! Jazz violinist and Convergence Curating Artist Regina Carter returns for the continuation of Gone in a Phrase of Air, an exploration of the impact of “urban renewal” on African American and immigrant communities. Join us for an interactive discussion with members of our community displaced or impacted by the construction of the Empire State Plaza. Feedback from these discussion will be incorporated into a new work Carter will premiere at the 2023 American Music Festival.

Did you know that allegedly Soviet orchestras performing Tchaikovsky’s 6th Symphony would switch the order of the last two movements in order to bring the work to a triumphant conclusion? Check out this clip from the third movement of the Symphony from our recent performance on February 12th.
