Area Churches and Businesses Join together to Help Justice for Orphans

Justice for Orphans started 10 years ago when our Executive Director, Sandra Flach and her friend Mary Slager felt the call to inspire, educate and equip churches to care for kids in crisis throughout the world. Three years ago, we were able to bring the CarePortal platform to NYS as a way for county social services workers to make requests for kids in need. Since then, we have met the needs of stressed-out caseworkers and kids in crisis across 6 counties in NY. We have served almost 3000 children at an estimated value of over 1 million dollars.

Over Valentine’s Day weekend, our local 3 counties (Albany, Schenectady and Greene) were served by 13 churches and the many businesses that support us. In three days, they met the needs of 73 children including the delivery of 23 Twin Beds, 4 Toddler Beds, 4 Full Size Beds, and 2 Sets of Bunk Beds. Highlights of our deliveries included a 9-year-old girl exclaiming, “I get a pillow too!” and a mother calling back after the delivery in tears that her kids were all settled in their beds with their matching sheets and comforters.

We are looking forward to beginning to serve in Rensselaer County by the end of April and are actively searching for businesses that want to help make a difference. Your employees can actually pick which requests they would like to fund- it is a perfect mix of business, social justice and team building.
