Senior already has Post-Graduation Job Offer Thanks to Capital Region BOCES

It may not even be the half-way mark of his senior year, but a Capital Region BOCES senior already has a job offer in the career of his choice upon graduation.

Capital Region BOCES Manufacturing and Machining Technology Senior Drew Wideman has been offered full-time work post-graduation at Altamont Spray Welding, where he has been working since the start of the year in a work-based learning placement established by BOCES.

“I didn’t expect this when I enrolled in BOCES, but I am glad it happened,” said Wideman.

Wideman started working at the operation in September, doing mechanical work, repair and replacing parts.

“It’s great to be able to go there instead of school and see how the real world works and to learn skills that I want to use in the future,” he said.

Wideman said he chose BOCES to learn a different skill

“I like the whole idea of learning a skill I can use outside of school,” he said. “I enjoy the ability to learn a skill while I am still in school that I can use to get a good-paying job in an environment I enjoy.”

Altamont Spray Welding became a Capital Region BOCES Business partner last school year after being approached by Work-based Learning Coordinator James Haas and Manufacturing and Machining Technology teacher Charlene Vice.

“They are a really solid program and partner,” Vice said.

Capital Region BOCES is always looking to add to its impressive list of business partners.
