October 30, 2017Clarkson Capital Region Campus Brings Leaders Together to Launch Healthcare Innovation Workshop
A new workshop specifically for professionals interested in innovation in the healthcare delivery system will be held at Clarkson University’s Capital Region Campus in early 2018. “Igniting Innovation in the Healthcare Delivery System: A Project-Based Workshop” was designed to provide healthcare delivery system organizations and their employees with a set of tools to lead the innovation process.
Associate Professor of Consumer and Organizational Studies Mike Wasserman, who helped design the seminar said, “It is really exciting to integrate Clarkson’s strengths in healthcare management and innovation into a workshop format. This approach has significant potential to directly help regional healthcare organizations build leading-edge innovation capabilities. We hope this workshop leads to projects with tangible results for the quality of care residents in our regional communities enjoy.”
The two day, hands-on workshop will be led by industry experts and academics. Clarkson faculty members Daved Barry, Reh chair in innovation and entrepreneurship in research, John Huppertz, associate professor and director of healthcare management, and Bela Musits, Reh chair in innovation and entrepreneurship practice, are leading the program along with prominent industry experts. Participants can expect about six hours of classroom learning, eight hours of innovation lab time, guest experts, and a guided multi-week innovation project of their choice. To maximize project development and implementation within an organization, leaders recommend sending at least two employees from the same organization.
“With the rapid changes in occurring in our healthcare system, an organization’s ability to innovate is critical. Clarkson has a long history of innovation and entrepreneurial education, and we wanted to bring those lessons learned to the healthcare industry with this workshop,” Bela Musits said.
“Healthcare innovation is an area where ‘triple wins’ can happen – improved patient care and satisfaction, enhanced employee safety and satisfaction, and reduced costs,” Wasserman said.
Participants in the workshop will learn how to make these wins happen; create innovation opportunities and avoid common roadblocks; identify, build and develop innovation initiatives for their workplaces; and build a set of innovation tools to take back to their organizations.
