February 11, 2021Capital Region BOCES Students Prepare for a ‘Hearty’ Holiday
Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School students are all heart – really!
Whether they are pursuing a career in carpentry, cosmetology or culinary, students prepared for a hearty Valentine’s Day by creating products that showed their love.
In Carpentry Services, students layered wood and that shaped the pieces into heart that they can made a true heart shaped box (no, Nirvana involved). In cosmetology, juniors created hear designs Cupid would love, turning long hair into hearts. And in the kitchen, aspiring chefs turned ther attention to candies and heart-shaped cakes.
“It’s a fun way to work on our skills and help bring people joy,” said Spiro Mikropoulos, a carpentry student from Mohonasen.
Capital Region BOCES CTE offers approximately 30 programs that prepare more than 1,000 students for specific careers, but also give students such skills as communications, interviewing and time management that span the spectrum of careers.
Those programs are guided by input CTE receives from the business community. These professionals serve on nearly 20 different advisory panels that meet periodically at BOCES and guide the curriculum and planning, as well as provide work-based learning opportunities for students.
