In the attached photos, Middleburgh student Emily Elsis traces a design and cuts the wood for it at the Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School Schoharie Campus where she is a student in the Construction/Heavy Equipment program. Elsis is creating a skull shaped Adirondack Chair for her personal use as one of her final projects at BOCES.
Through Capital Region BOCES, the senior received an internship at Lancaster Development, a major highway contractor, and that internship will become a full-time job upon her graduation this June.
Students like Emily in the two-year Construction/Heavy Equipment program learn the knowledge and skills required to enter the construction and equipment operator industries or pursue further education in college or technical school. They learn everything from equipment operator and maintenance skills to how to construct a building while earning National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) certifications, which are recognized nationwide by contractors and employers, as well as OSHA and first aid certifications.
