NYATEP Launches Statewide Workforce Equity Analysis Tool (SWEAT) Scan

Throughout the past year, NYATEP has been working alongside an Advisory Committee made up of Executive Workforce Leaders of Color across New York State to understand how to elevate Leaders of Color and address the inequities that the workforce system internally perpetuates. Through these discussions we learned that no detailed baseline data currently exists that demonstrates what Diversity, Equity & Inclusion efforts are underway within the workforce development sector.

On December 14, NYATEP  launched a Statewide Workforce Equity Analysis Tool (SWEAT), an organizational scan and sectoral strategy aimed at uncovering the equity and advancement gaps that exist within the workforce development sector staffing and to highlight what Diversity, Equity & Inclusion efforts are underway. Thanks to the generous support of the Workforce Development Institute and the strategic partnership with Tangible Development, NYATEP developed the SWEAT scan to quantify our efforts and the gaps that exist.

The goal of the SWEAT scan is develop a baseline of data for New York State that will identify the:

  • Number of Leaders of Color throughout the statewide workforce development system
  • Racial, ethnic, and gender identities of local Workforce Development Boards, Community Based Organizations and other service providers
  • The number of individuals who have engaged in leadership training and the types of training they have received and have access to Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion practices that have been put into place

What Are We Seeking to Accomplish?

Our goal is to survey as many workforce development providers as possible across New York State to:

  • Identify equity gaps through a race and gender lens
  • Gain a baseline understanding of how people advance in our organizations (as a sector)
  • Develop a sectoral strategy designed to model and support curbing systemic racism across the state

Please note, to ensure the most accurate overall results, only one submission per organization can be used. The first submission will be accepted; all others will be discarded from reporting. One point person (such as a CEO or HR Director) should be appointed to gather information and input data into the survey.
