YWCA NorthEastern NY Recognizes Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). During this month, YWCA NorthEastern NY asks the community to get involved and advocate for the victims and survivors of domestic violence.

As one of the area’s leading organizations for domestic violence services, YWCA NENY will host several events in the month of October to educate the community, support survivors, and raise funds for their domestic violence support services for survivors and their families.

YWCA NENY’s domestic violence services include safe shelter, 24-hour hotline, counseling, advocacy, and economic empowerment. The YW Team works to help over 4,000 individuals and their families each year.

“At YWCA NENY, our mission is to not only support those affected by domestic violence but also to foster prevention through community engagement and education,” said Wendi Gapczynski, Director of Shelter, Advocacy, and DV Education. “Through our DVAM events, we aim to honor our dedicated team and supporters, offer empowering programming, and unite with the community to create a future free from violence while standing strong with survivors.”

YWCA NENY’s coming events for DVAM include:

  • Thursday, October 10, 2024: “In Her Shoes” Training at YWCA NENY, 44 Washington Ave. Schenectady at 5:30pm.
  • Thursday, October 17, 2024: Annual Take Back the Night March at YWCA NENY, 44 Washington Ave. Schenectady from 5:30pm to 7pm.
