#YogaPalooza Kicks Off 2017’s Pearlpalooza Music Festival

#YogaPalooza, the Capital Region’s first street-wide mass yoga event, will kick off Pearlpalooza on Saturday, September 16. The annual downtown Albany music festival will begin on a quieter note this year: before the alternative rock gets rolling, #YogaPalooza will offer a free 60-minute, all-levels yoga session on N. Pearl Street in front of Pearlpalooza’s Remarkable Liquids Main Stage from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. #YogaPalooza is presented by Remarkable Liquids, The Hot Yoga Spot, Warehouse Wellness, The Hollow Bar + Kitchen, WEQX and the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District (BID).

A team of instructors from The Hot Yoga Spot will assist attendees while Baptiste-certified yoga teacher Jessica Padula facilitates the #YogaPalooza session from the stage. Registration is free; check-in begins at 10:30 AM in front of The Hollow at 79 N. Pearl Street, and includes entry for free giveaways.

“Pearlpalooza is much more than a music festival. It’s grown into a true community gathering over the years, bringing together local businesses, residents and visitors for a full day of fun in the heart of Downtown,” said Downtown Albany BID Executive Director Georgette Steffens. “Through #YogaPalooza and other new additions to this year’s event, we are thrilled to expand the reach of this popular festival and re-envision what Pearlpalooza can be.”

#YogaPalooza is organized in partnership with local hot yoga and barre fitness studio The Hot Yoga Spot. Since first rolling out their yoga mats at a small Guilderland studio in 2010, The Hot Yoga Spot has grown to offer almost 200 sessions weekly at five locations throughout the Capital Region.

“The Hot Yoga Spot is excited to be involved with Pearlpalooza this year and we can’t wait to host a free yoga class for the community,” said Hot Yoga Spot owner and operator Jessica Fuller. “We’re honored to be part of the day’s festivities and look forward to introducing people to the fun and benefits of yoga with #YogaPalooza.”

“I am incredibly honored to deliver a free mass yoga class along with our amazing team of assistants from The Hot Yoga Spot,” said instructor Jessica Padula. “Yoga has had such a positive impact on my life and the lives of each member of our team, and we can’t wait to share our passion with as many people as possible and cause an observable shift of unity in our community right here at home.”

Originating in India thousands of years ago, yoga has been embraced worldwide as a holistic approach to wellness. Practitioners note yoga’s ability to lessen anxiety and promote mental, physical and emotional well-being. Similar mass yoga events, such as the annual summer solstice gathering at Times Square in New York City, have drawn thousands of participants from all walks of life. #YogaPalooza will serve as a special opportunity to introduce the practice to new people while offering a unique environment to even the most advanced students.

Now in its 7th year, Pearlpalooza will feature free live music on the Remarkable Liquids Main Stage (at N. Pearl & Sheridan) and the O’Connell & Aronowitz Stage (at N. Pearl & Pine) beginning at 1:00 PM. This year’s lineup includes performances from K.Flay, Rubblebucket, Arkells, Colony House, Kimono Dragons, and the winner of the Lucky Strike Social Battle of the Bands.
