WellNow Urgent Care in Niskayuna Now Offering New Brain Health Assessment Tool

WellNow Urgent CareSM is now offering ClearEdge, an FDA-compliant brain health assessment tool used to assess and track recovery from mild brain injuries, such as concussions, at the Niskayuna facility. Patients ages 8 and up can walk into the facility – no appointment needed – for the 30-minute ClearEdge assessment, which uses a combination of cognitive and balance tests.

“We’re excited to offer ClearEdge to our patients in the Schenectady area to help provide the most accurate diagnosis and treatment to their injuries,” said WellNow Urgent Care President John Radford, MD. “This new offering best aligns with our mission of providing patients quick, convenient patient-centered care with exceptional service.”

ClearEdge uses state-of-the-art technology, developed in collaboration with SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY, to capture objective data through two assessments: ClearEdge® DANA, the cognitive test, and ClearEdge® Motion, the balance test. WellNow clinicians will administer the suite of tests, which typically takes less than 30 minutes, to benchmark the patient’s current condition and better understand the breadth of the injury. From there, patients may be asked to return for complimentary follow-up assessments to compare new results against the initial findings in order to track their recovery over time.

“As research evolves, head injuries – no matter the degree – continue to have unforeseen future complications when not properly diagnosed or treated,” continued Radford. “With ClearEdge, WellNow Urgent Care is able to better assess mild head injuries, offering patients a stronger diagnosis and treatment thanks to the objective data provided.”

WellNow Urgent Care provides timely treatment for non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses, such as sprains, strains, colds and the flu, while also providing on-site X-rays, lab testing and physicals. Patients are treated on a walk-in basis but may also view up-to-date facility wait times and check in online directly on the company’s homepage to help reduce wait times. Employers can also partner with WellNow for occupational medicine programs. A full list of services and hours can be found online.
