Warmth of Wine Creates Heating Assistance for Capital Region Seniors

Did you know that each year, hundreds of area seniors struggle to pay their heating bills? Join us on Thursday, March 2 at the Century House for the 12th Annual Warmth of Wine, a wine tasting event hosted by Umbrella of Colonie, the home maintenance program of Colonie Senior Service Centers. CAP COM Federal Credit Union will help present a night of outstanding wines from around the world by Exit 9 Wine & Liquor, hors d’ oeuvres and light fare by the Century House, silent and live auction items, and an exciting Mystery Wine pull where you could walk away with a $150 bottle of wine!

The Warmth of Wine, in its 12th year, hosted by Umbrella of Colonie, the home maintenance program of Colonie Senior Service Centers, will be held at The Century House in Latham on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with the Honorary Committee Reception to commence at 5:30 p.m.

Every year Umbrella hosts the Warmth of Wine to raise funds and awareness in our community for seniors who cannot afford the cost to heat their homes throughout the winter months. All funds raised go directly to seniors in need; the average person assisted by the Warmth of Wine lives on $1,200 per month with a winter heating bill of $800. In some cases, the funds are also used to repair outdated or inefficient heating systems.

“Please extend my thanks and gratitude to all who made it possible for my gift of $200 from the Warmth of Wine fund.  I know many people are involved in the success of this annual project, and I am a lucky recipient of this generosity for many years now. Blessings to all for their caring souls,” said a recipient of the 2016 Warmth of Wine Heating Assistance fund.

Wine from around the world will be showcased at the event along with light fare and hors d’oeuvres, live and silent auctions, and an exclusive mystery wine pull where guests could walk away with a bottle of wine worth $150 or more!
