June 6, 2019WAMC Helps The Community In Three-Day Drive
WAMC has completed another Fund Drive, raising $1million in just three days and a Locked Box.
With the support of The Seymour Fox Foundation, WAMC listeners helped provide people in need with personal hygiene items and fresh produce through The Food Pantries of The Capital District. Personal and household hygiene products such as toilet paper, detergent, and toothpaste are essential to living a dignified, healthy, clean, and productive life however many individuals in our community do not have access to them consistently. Pantry produce, such as apples, bananas, potatoes, broccoli and onions, allows pantries to provide healthy options to their clients in respect to their food preferences.
The Adirondack Council also donated Carbon Reduction Certificates to supporters of the drive. Donors to this initiative will keep 200 tons of carbon pollution out of the atmosphere.
Our June Fund Drive also brought together a timely partnership between NYSUT and WAMC. Through the drive, listeners donated 500 backpacks and supply kits to students of the station’s 18-county listening area this August and September.
WAMC’s Senior Director of News and Programming Joe Donahue said: “There is a beauty to the compassion, empathy and generosity shown by our listeners. Support for WAMC in addition to helping supply fresh produce and necessary school supplies to needy children as well as personal hygiene items for area food pantries was overwhelming, heartwarming and as special as those providing it.”
And Alan Chartock, the station’s President and CEO comments: “This was a tremendous effort. These Fund Drives always amaze me. We would not be able to do what we do without the help of the listeners, volunteers, local businesses and our employees who work so hard to make this happen.”
