Veterans to Receive Pro Bono Legal Information at Annual ‘Law Day’

This year on Veterans Day, Albany Law School’s students will serve local veterans and service members by organizing free one-on-one legal consultations at the law school’s annual Veterans Law Day. The program is open to all veterans seeking general legal help related to employment, family law, and more.

Volunteer attorneys will provide pro bono consultations to veterans who have pre-registered. The day will also include a community resource fair, a keynote speech by veteran and former Albany County Executive Michael Breslin, and free breakfast and lunch.

This student-led event, which has served hundreds of veterans in the past, is presented by the law school’s Pro Bono Program and Veterans’ Rights Project. The presenting sponsor of Veterans Law Day is BNY Mellon. Other contributors include Mack & Associates, PLLC. Pro bono consultations will be provided by attorneys from Tully Rinckey, Herzog Law Firm, O’Brien & Wood, New York State Division of Veterans’ Affairs, and Cutler, Trainor, and Cutler.

Keynote speaker: Former Albany County Executive Michael Breslin, West Point graduate and veteran of the U.S. Army. Breslin served three years in the 82nd Airborne Division, where he was platoon leader and infantry company commander, and later served a year in Vietnam where he was an infantry company commander in the 4th Infantry Division. He was honorably discharged in 1969 as a Major. His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, and Combat Infantry Badge.

Lunch speaker: Benjamin Pomerance, deputy director of program development for the New York State Division of Veterans’ Affairs. Pomerance is a 2013 graduate of Albany Law School. He organized Albany Law’s first law clinic for veterans in 2012.

The event will take place at Albany Law School, 80 New Scotland Ave. Albany, NY 12208 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
