Upper Union Street Harvest Fest is Saturday

Upper Union Street, Schenectady’s 11 Th Annual Harvest Fest & Art Show is scheduled for Saturday, October 1 from 10am – 3pm.  A wide variety of food served inside and outside, Gourmet Market Place, four bands, a Flea Market by Home Furnishings, visual artists including Stockade Station, free bouncy bounce at Home Style Pizza, Balloon Buddies, pony rides, baby farm animals, photo ops with CARGO, the Ellis Hospital Security Dog and psychic readings by Inca at Head to Tail Pet Wellness Center, and dancers from Dance Me Studio performing and getting the audience involved in line dancing and other participatory dance.

Musical performances include the Long Bow Trio at Hot Harry’s Fresh Burritos, Lecco Morris & Company at Phillips Hardware, Tanager at Gershon’s and John McIntosh at Home Style Pizza.

A number of not for community groups participating in the 2016 Harvest Fest include the Rotary Club of Schenectady organizing a “Sock It To Polio” fundraiser. The socks will be donated by Marigolds Accessories and will be sold with all proceeds going to Rotary’s “Polio Plus Campaign” to eradicate Polio in third world countries. Sondra’s Fine Jewelry will sponsor the 2016 USMC Toys for Tots Kickoff, encouraging participants to bring a new unwrapped toy for a chance to win a 14k Star in honor of the troops. Also at Sondra’s, Hair Razors with owner/stylist Penny Williams will be hosting the “Fight like a Girl” Campaign to knock out Breast Cancer!  Pink Hair Extensions or Pink Ink $10.00. 100% of the donations go to support the Bellevue Woman’s Center. The Animal Protective Foundation will be selling Mrs. Beasley’s pet merchandise and promoting their Bark and Brew event on 10/2. Volunteers from the Veterans Miracle Center will be at Ed’s Barber Shop in support of a program which provides veterans and active-duty military personnel and their immediate families’ with goods and counseling services at no charge. Folks will have an opportunity to sign a few holiday cards to be sent to military personnel stationed overseas and purchase t-shirts, hats and sweatshirts to benefit the work of the organization. Schenectady Symphony Orchestra volunteers will be on hand for packet pick up for their Beat Mozart running event in Schenectady’s Central Park on Sunday, October 2.

Upper Union Street’s many restaurants will be offering seasonal treats. Scotti’s Restaurant and Pizzeria will be on board selling fried dough. Chef / owner, Guy Sementelli’s daughter, a 13 year old with her own cookie business, will be selling her Iznette cookies and Scotti’s 50th anniversary t-shirts will be on sale. Gershon’s will be grilling bratwurst and burgers on the patio and serving deli favorites inside.

Sidewalk and porch sales, retail promotions and invited vendors will offer an early start to holiday shopping including a trunk show and sale by marigold’s accessories and indoor/outdoor sidewalk sale at Musler’s, sidewalk sale at Simon’s and newly hand crafted home accessories at Sow’s Ear Studio. Sondra’s is set for holiday giving with Hashtag necklaces, Arm Candy Diamond bracelets, the latest Honora Pearls and Levian Chocolate Diamonds.  Ascent Tool Oils will be offering a 10% rebate for Young Living Premium Starter kits! The Upper Union Street Harvest Fest & Art Show is sponsored in part by the Schenectady County Arts Initiative (CIP) grant awarded through the Schenectady County Legislature.
