Upper Union 5k Announces Post Race Health Happy Hour

The Upper Union Street Scholarship 5 K is scheduled for an 8:30 AM start on Saturday, September 16, 2017. The running/walking race benefits scholarships to a graduating senior at Schenectady, Niskayuna and Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons High Schools. A unique “Healthy Happy Hour” with music, beverages and wellness life style related vendors is set for after the race.

“The Upper Union Street Scholarship 5K is ratcheting up,” said Gregg Kelly, Vice President of the Upper Union Street BID Board of Directors and 5 K Chairman. “We’re expanding the event to merge with some of the popular wellness related aspects of the former Harvest Fest. The unique, NEW Healthy Happy Hour following the race will give participants and appropriate vendors a contemporary life-style market / exhibit opportunity with music, craft beers and ciders, natural foods, fresh produce and trendy, eco-friendly activities. Runners, supportive family members and spectators of all ages are welcome.”

“Our scholarship winners represent college bound high school grads who compete for the award through an essay about the role of small business within the local community,” said Madelyn Thorne, an Upper Union Street BID (Business Improvement District) board member and chair of the scholarship committee. “It’s wonderful to read how young people perceive and value independent, small business. They note community partnerships, business sponsorships, employment for youth and quality of life issues brought together by small businesses.”
