U.S. World and News Report lists SCJ Among Top Graduate Programs
UAlbany’s School of Criminal Justice was ranked No. 2 in the nation in the most recent graduate school rankings released today by U.S. News & World Report.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the School of Criminal Justice, which has changed the landscape of research and education in the field since its founding. The school boasts nationally-recognized faculty, ground-breaking research, and award winning instructors. SJC’s BA, MA, and PhD alumni have been highly successful in research and teaching, in local, state, federal and international criminal justice agencies, and in private and non-profit organizations that provide services or make policy recommendations.
“The School of Criminal Justice is a special place thanks to our excellent staff, students, faculty and alumni,” said Dean William Pridemore. “The field of criminology and criminal justice has grown to include more than 40 Ph.D. programs in the United States. To be recognized by our peers as one of the very top programs in the nation is a wonderful honor and reflects the world-class research and graduate training underway in our School.”
Founded in 1968, the school was the first doctoral-granting criminal justice program in the nation. Its interdisciplinary and innovative curriculum, focusing on all aspects of crime and societal reactions to crime, has been emulated by many other doctoral programs founded since then.
“I am very happy to see this recognition for us in a field we founded 50 years ago,” said Provost James Stellar. “Under Dean Pridemore’s leadership, the School continues to thrive, with new faculty hires, becoming the editorial home of two of the field’s leading journals, Criminology and Justice Quarterly, and other major accomplishments. We look forward to a great future with the School of Criminal Justice as a key component of UAlbany’s diverse offerings.”
