Trooper Talks about Careers to Capital Region BOCES Criminal Justice Students

New York State Police Trooper Lisa MacLauchin discussed careers in criminal justice, what it takes to become a state trooper and the various uniformed and non-uniformed careers in the New York State Police during a Nov. 29 visit to the Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School Criminal Justice Program.

The longtime trooper is a friend of the criminal justice program at Capital Region BOCES and serves on the 300-business/organization strong Capital Region BOCES advisory board. In that capacity, she not only presents to students on a wide-range of topics, but also advises on curriculum and identifies real-world experiences and opportunities students could partake in.

Approximately 100 students are enrolled in the two-year criminal justice program offered by Capital Region BOCES on the Albany and Schoharie campuses. Students in the program learn about the history, theory, practices and recent developments in the field of criminal justice, as well as practice the skills necessary to work as police officers, work in the prison systems or work in a security detail.
