December 10, 2018Times Union Center Awarded Comeback Building of the Year
Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy announced that the Times Union Center has been honored with the “Comeback Building of the Year” Award from the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) for its recent revitalization. The award was presented at the 11th Annual Capital Region BOMA Awards Banquet on Thursday, December 6.
“This award is a recognition of the historic investments we have made in our Times Union Center and the dedication of our skilled workforce that made it a reality. I am proud that this is now a world-class facility that attracts national and even international events while serving as a catalyst for further economic development in downtown Albany and throughout Albany County,” said County Executive McCoy.
The Comeback Building of the Year Award is an annual designation presented by the Capital Region Chapter of BOMA, a national organization representing owners and managers of various types of commercial properties. It’s given to a building that has been renovated within the last 18 months and “had a positive impact on the community.”
Albany County recently completed a $20 million renovation project of the Times Union Center, which completely enclosed the atrium and features new furnishings, bathrooms, a glass elevator, two massive outdoor LED screens, and serves as a common area before events at the stadium as well as an event space in its own right for residents to gather.
The redesign of the project was made possible by Synthesis Architects. Along with Comeback Building of the Year, other awards presented at the Awards Banquet included “New Building of the Year” for the state-of-the-art Pioneer Bank Headquarters in Colonie, as well as “Renovated Building of the Year” for the News Apartments in Troy.
