January 16, 2020The Theatre Institute at Sage presents The Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, newly adapted by Wendy Kesselman.
This classic story captures the fears, hope, laughter, and grief of eight people hiding from the Nazis in a claustrophobic attic. In this new adaptation for a new generation, Anne Frank emerges from history a living, lyrical, intensely gifted girl who confronts her rapidly changing world with astonishing wit and determination. “When I write I shake off all my cares. But I want to achieve more than that. I want to be useful and bring enjoyment to all people, even those I’ve never met. I want to go on living even after my death!”

The Diary of Anne Frank is helmed by guest director Eileen Schuyler. Schuyler, a much-loved local actress, has been seen on the stages of Capital Repertory Theatre, NYSTI, at WAM, Stageworks/Hudson, and others. She is also Artistic Director of Theater Voices, now in its 31st season, where she has directed The Road to Mecca, A Cheever Evening, The Rainmaker, Arms and the Man and Candida. She taught acting for nine years at the University of Albany, and is presently teaching at Russell Sage College.
Russell Sage College students in the company include: Francesca Volpe, Liesel Gerstenberger, Elizabeth Broderick, Regina Desrosiers, AJ Joyner, Vincent Pruchnik, and Kately Allen.
The cast will be joined by David Baecker, Associate Professor of Theatre and head of the Creative and Performing Arts Department at Sage, and Sage Alumnae Mitchell Johnson.
Local Actor Shayne Cameris will lend his talent also to the cast of The Diary of Anne Frank. Shayne graduated from Siena College, and since then has been busy working at Capital Repertory Theatre, Troy Foundry Theatre, Lake George Dinner Theatre, Saratoga Shakespeare, Theater Voices and other area theaters.
Designers for the production include Timothy Bornt (sets), Stephanie Van Sandt (lighting), Lynne Roblin (costumes) and Vincent Pruchnik (sound).

Established in February of 2011, the Theatre Institute at Sage is dedicated to providing quality live theatre and arts-in-education programming to Capital Region youth, educators and residents. The Institute also provides opportunities for Russell Sage students as performers, technicians and teachers. Programs include educational support services for Sage productions (such as in-class preparations, teacher dress rehearsals and study guides), a Saturday theatre arts school, camps during school breaks, and several theatre camps during the summer for children ages 5-18.
