October 14, 2020The Museum of Innovation and Science (miSci) to Open New Miniature Golf Exhibition Saturday, October 24, 10 am to 4 pm
The Museum of Innovation and Science will be opening its newest exhibition Engineering the Perfect Shot!, on Saturday, October 24, from 10 am – 4 pm, with a member’s exclusive from 10 am – 12 pm. Media representatives who would like to attend should contact Bradley K. LaMere, VP of Marketing and Communications, at the information listed below. The exhibition features nine interactive, miniature golf holes, each of which are designed to demonstrate a concept from the science of physics. Visitors to the exhibition will observe projectile motion, kinetic friction, collision, and more as they play a full round of miniature golf on our nine-hole course. Players will be able to track their progress and plan their shots using a digital scorecard, which is accessible with any smart device, as well as access bonus materials associated with each hole.
‘miSci is in the business of providing ‘edutainment’ to patrons of all ages,’ says Dr. Gina Gould, President of miSci. ‘Engineering the Perfect Shot! is a fun and exciting way to learn about subjects related to science, specifically physics.’
All holes have exciting and engaging titles that reflect the scientific concepts being learned at each hole. The second hole, entitled Projectile, serves as a strong example. For this hole, there is a large tire blocking the course. Luckily, there is a ramp to launch the ball through the tire! However, there is also a long stretch of rough. The player will have to choose which ramp will launch the ball the farthest. This hole exhibits the scientific concepts associated with projectiles. All objects thrown or launched at the Earth’s surface will follow a parabolic path. This path is called projectile motion. The ramp has three different angles: 30o, 45o, and 60o. According to projectile motion, the ramp at 45o will produce the largest distance traveled by the same object at the same speed.
Engineering the Perfect Shot! will be on view through May 9, 2021.
