January 5, 2021The Fast Lane To A Nursing Career Through Capital Region BOCES Adult Education!
Adults in the Capital Region have the opportunity this winter to gain the training needed to enter a career with nearly double-digit job growth projections.
Starting in January, The Capital Region BOCES Adult Health Careers Center is offering a part-time nursing class that prepares students for a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
The part-time LPN program starts Jan. 25; Financial aid is available as is tuition assistance.
The program prepares students for one of the fastest-growing and most in-demand jobs in the nation. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 9 percent increase in demand for LPNs between now and 2029. That, coupled with the fact that LPNs earned a median salary nationally in 2019 of $47,480, makes it the right time to enter this exciting field.
The program runs for 18 months at the Career and Technical School Albany Campus, located at 1015 Watervliet-Shaker Road in Albany (Colonie). Classes start at 3 p.m. daily and last for varying lengths of time. Clinical hours are provided at various locations in the region.
The state-approved programs encompasses 1,100 hours of classroom and clinical study and practice. Students earn their clinical experience in various local health care facilities, including Ellis Hospital, Teresian House, the Albany County Nursing Home and Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, as well as the Schenectady Center.
“The Adult LPN program is a good program. Nursing is my passion because I love helping people and I love coming here to advance my career in nursing,” said Margaret Tucker, a full-time nursing student from Watervliet.
