Speed Mentoring Picks up Speed on Long Island

Business Mentor NY’s Speed Mentoring Events are gathering speed. After a successful launch in February, we’ve taken our in-person mentoring meetups to Long Island.

On May 19 , Business Mentor NY held a Speed Mentoring event with LISTnet and Launchpad LI Huntington, two organizations that assist and promote the work of start-ups on Long Island. More than 60 entrepreneurs and mentors attended and participated in three 20-minute, high-impact sessions with mentors whose expertise ranged from entrepreneurship, business strategy, and marketing to accounting, finance and law.  Entrepreneurs came prepared with questions regarding specific challenges being faced in their business, and mentors were ready to provide problem solving skills and expert advice.

They’ve added to more than 500 successful matches already made through the free program, announced by the Governor in his State of the State address last year.

“Watching an idea come to fruition is a remarkable achievement, but the road to success is often met with many challenges. That’s why the Governor created Business Mentor NY – a program dedicated to matching tangible ideas with expert advice,” said ESD President, CEO & Commissioner Howard Zemsky. “I recently attended Business Mentor NY’s Speed Mentoring and Networking Event on Long Island, and witnessed first-hand how the program is helping entrepreneurs better position their businesses for success. I congratulate the Business Mentor NY team on a great evening, and look forward to the next event.”

We’ve received overwhelmingly positive feedback from entrepreneurs and mentors alike! Entrepreneurs came armed with questions and left with answers. “I walked into Speed Mentoring wanting to build my brand and take it to the next level,” said Paula Gottlieb Herman of LilChefs.com Special Events. “I walked out with solid info on the advantages of being a woman-owned company, advice on business plans, and some great contacts. Each of my three mentors had different skill sets and contributed unique perspectives and guidance.”  Entrepreneurs also received concrete and actionable advice. Bill Cook of Vision Technologies came to the event to work on his elevator pitch.  After Bill met with marketing and IT mentors he said, “The mentors insight and comments helped me refine my elevator pitch to better resonate with customers.  They helped refine something I felt was already good enough and only made it better!”

The evening was inspiring and rewarding for the mentors as well.   Walden H. Leverich, CEO and founder of Tech Software said, “It was inspiring to see and meet with some of the new entrepreneurs proving Long Island is a great place to start a business. Events like these allow me to give back to the community, but also re-energize me to go back to continue to grow and reinvent my own company.”
