Thank Goodness – It’s Over!

Good news: the state legislative session ended last week and without the passage of the typical “Big Ugly”( a bill negotiated behind closed doors, containing everything including the kitchen sink, and usually passed when most of us are sleeping)!  The bad news: not much was accomplished during the final days of session.  The Chamber is particularly disappointed that agreement was not made on several bills that could have improved New York State’s business climate (e.g., Small Business Tax Relief; Scaffold Law Reform; and mandate relief).  The good news: not much was accomplished during the final days of session.  Your advocacy team was successful in blocking the passage of bills that would have harmed our region and its economy (e.g., Prevailing Wage Expansion; and Single Payer/Government Run Healthcare).  The Governor and Legislature could have and should have done much more to improve our state’s business climate during the last several months. We are hopeful that after the election cycle, they will return their attention on policies that support businesses, jobs and the economy. In any event, be assured your advocacy team will continue its laser focus on the Chamber’s agenda now and always.  Because of you our voice will stay strong.
