Tech Valley Office Interiors Relocating to Cohoes

Tech Valley Office Interiors, a 15-year-old full-service Office Furniture dealership located in Albany, has announced that it has recently closed on a building and will be relocating the business to downtown Cohoes.

TVOI Owner Rod Dion recently purchased 50 Mohawk Street, a 10,600 square foot building located across from the Cohoes Music Hall. The building was originally built in 1978 for Dansk Dishware and was operated until recently by Key Bank as a Regional Mail Headquarters.

TVOI plans on moving both its new and preowned companies, Nu2u Quality Used Office furniture, to the new location while using the remaining space for the first Cohoes based Co-Working space called Harmony Co-Working. The anticipated capacity for the Co-working space is 20 occupants. When completed, the new building will house a 4,000 square foot working showroom, a 3,000 square foot warehouse and a Quickship showroom, which is the first of its kind in the Albany market. This will allow customers to choose from a large inventory of popular office furniture offerings and receive their product with speed.

Over the past several years, workplace design has promoted a more collaborative setting with lower physical barriers to achieve a more dynamic work environment. In preparing for a workplace post-COVID-19, TVOI plans to utilize its showroom to show customers how to retrofit these types of open-plan offices to protect employees during this fluid time, even if it is just a short-term strategy. Adding a few additional protective pieces to desks and workstations, raising cubicle walls, and rethinking the layout of the space may help keep everyone safe and healthy while returning to work

Dion, who is also Chairman of the Cohoes IDA, stated how excited he was to be moving his company back to where he lives. “This is a dream I never thought would come true. The building, and the opportunity to move jobs back to Cohoes is so exciting for all involved. My young design staff is extremely excited about moving to a more walkable community,” said Dion. He went on to say, “As Chairman of the IDA, the explosion of growth that this area has seen in just the past few years made it the right time to join in. With the initial growth stimulated by Economic Development, I hope this is the beginning of more private investment into the City.”

The deal was brokered by Alison Burnside of Dartmouth Realty and Dan Lesage of Hunt Realty. Financing was provided by Capital Bank and the Al-Tech Fund through the Capital Region Chamber of Commerce.

While build out is limited, TVOI is hoping to be open in the new location the first week of July. For more than nine years, TVOI has been located at 30 Kraft Ave in Albany.
