SUNY Schenectady County Community College Partnering with Albany Medical Center on EMT Program

The SUNY Schenectady County Community College Division of Workforce Development and Community Education’s Emergency Medical Technician courses will partner with Albany Medical Center’s Division of Prehospital Medicine beginning with the upcoming Fall 2017 semester.

Albany Medical Center emergency medicine doctor, Nicolas Rathert, M.D., certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine in 2013, will serve as the Medical Director of SUNY SCCC’s EMT-Basic course. The EMS physicians from Albany Medical Center are fellowship trained and/or board certified in EMS and will provide general oversight, assure medical accuracy and appropriateness of the educational program, and provide instruction to students as needed.

“We are delighted to have Dr. Rathert’s expertise as an integral part of our program,” said Sarah Wilson Sparrow, Program Coordinator in SUNY SCCC’s Division of Workforce Development and Community Education. “We are confident that the involvement of physicians specifically trained in EMS will enhance the students’ experience and sharpen the program’s competitive edge.”

SUNY SCCC’s EMT-Basic course is available to students 18 years or older each fall and spring semester, and is designed to meet New York State Department of Health requirements for EMT training. The course is updated annually and consistently adheres to materials identified in the New York State EMS program student manual.
