SUNY Schenectady County Community College Announces Biowaste Pyrolysis Solutions (BPS) Joins START-UP NY Program

BPS will locate at 433 State Street in Downtown Schenectady

SUNY Schenectady County Community College today announced a partnership with Biowaste Pyrolysis Solutions (BPS) through New York State’s START-UP NY program. BPS is a technology company that works with owners and operators of wastewater treatment facilities to provide a more cost effective, sustainable and eco-friendly way of treating waste, by using proprietary technology to transform waste to energy.

The company will occupy START-UP NY space at Urban Co-Works, located at 433 State Street in downtown Schenectady. BPS will create 16 new jobs over the next five years in Schenectady.

SUNY Schenectady County Community College President Dr. Steady Moono said, “We are very pleased to welcome BPS to Schenectady and to the START-UP NY program. We continue to use this program to attract new businesses, jobs and opportunities for our students.”

President Moono added BPS will be able to take advantage of the learning experiences students gain in the College’s new Biotechnology Laboratory and Research Facility in Elston Hall on the college campus by offering them internships.

“We are pleased to establish our New York headquarters in partnership with SUNY Schenectady County Community College and New York State,” said Samuel M. Sylvetsky, President and founder of BPS. “The new Schenectady location will allow us to better serve the growing demand from clients for solutions to waste water disposal problems. From our new Schenectady office, we will monitor and provide control services for our systems operating in the field.”

“Schenectady County welcomes BPS to downtown Schenectady and our expanding list of innovative businesses that have chosen to grow in Schenectady County,” said County Legislator Gary Hughes, Chair of the Committee on Economic Development and Planning. “This partnership with SCCC and Urban Co-Works will not only create new jobs, it will also increase access to important internship opportunities.”

Jeff Goronkin, CEO at Urban Co-Works said, “Urban Co-Works is an ideal location for START-UP NY companies to establish themselves. As their business grows they can expand here in our flexible and open office environment. We’re excited to have BPS join our co-working community.”
