April 19, 2017SUNY SCCC School of Music Student to Record and Engineer Christmas Album for Flame
A SUNY Schenectady County Community College (SUNY SCCC) Music Audio Technology major is set to direct production for a Gloversville-based band’s upcoming album. Through an internship with Flame which began in February, Hailey Lozier has been participating in rehearsals with the band and fine-tuning the arrangements before heading into the studio to help them record their second Christmas album. Recording is set to take place this Friday, April 21, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the School of Music’s Vianna-Brignola Recording Studio.
Flame is a 10-piece band comprised entirely of talented musicians who also happen to have disabilities. Their repertoire includes more than 100 classic rock, pop, country and blues songs from the past several decades as well as some original tracks. In the past 14 years, they have produced five albums and a single, and tour the northeastern United States in a custom bus performing more than 70 shows annually. Next month, Flame is headed to Italy to perform at the 19th International Festival of Different Abilities.
Over the past several weeks, Lozier has been working one-on-one with band members, giving vocal instruction, conducting rehearsals for the album, and developing harmonies and background vocal arrangements. Lozier will serve as lead engineer during the recording process, managing the technical aspects of recording and post-production sound mastering. Lozier says working with Flame has been a fulfilling project, both creatively and personally.
“I am so grateful to have had this experience and work with these amazingly talented individuals,” said Lozier. “Every member of the band brings something different to the table and everyone is always happy to take suggestions given by other staff. I really love working with people who are talented and are happy to have others help them along the way. Flame’s message inspires me every day and makes me want to work with them for a long time.”
