Students Who Completed First SUNY SCCC Workforce Development Horticulture Class to be Recognized

On Monday, May 15, 2017, nine students, of whom six are members of Schenectady ARC, will graduate from the first non-credit horticulture class offered through the SUNY Schenectady County Community College Office of Workforce Development and Community Education. The class is a collaborative effort among the College, Schenectady ARC and Cornell Cooperative Extension and funded in part by the Workforce Development Institute.

More than basic botany, students in the 12-week Introduction to Horticulture class have gained valuable people skills with regard to customer service, as well as floral design, greenhouse management, tool safety, pest control and plant and weed identification. The collaborative program is designed to ensure that students with intellectual and developmental disabilities and members of the general community are equipped and ready to contribute their new skills to various horticultural fields, including gardening, landscaping, floristry and more.

The ceremony will take place at 11:30 at the Schenectady ARC Maple Ridge Day Center located at 2999 Hamburg Street in Rotterdam.
