Students and Instructors to Present at 31st Annual Regional Technology Awareness Day

The latest in educational technology will be on display and highlighted on Dec. 13 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. as hundreds of students and teachers from school districts across the Capital Region take part in the Northeastern Regional Information Center’s (NERIC) 31st Annual Regional Technology Awareness Day at the Red Lion Hotel in Albany.

More than 25 sessions will be featured including STEAM Days 2.0 from Troy City School District whose elementary students will utilize coding, robotics and video conferencing to demonstrate their knowledge of literacy, mathematics, mindfulness and more; Tech Wellness in the Classroom Demo Slam from Guilderland Central School District whose seventh- and eighth-grade students from their Student Help Desk will share tech tools and tricks that promote wellness in the classroom; and Student-Created VR Expeditions from the Albany City School District where their students demonstrate how they design and share virtual reality tours with their peers.

Additionally, a Technology Playground where students from across the region will feature technology-related, hands-on activities they enjoy in their classrooms will be part of the event. Several students from the Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School will be on hand to assist younger students where needed.

Endnote speaker Ana Homayoun, a noted teen and millennial expert, author, speaker and educator, will highlight the event with a presentation on Embracing Wellness in the Digital Age – a discussion on how to promote security, privacy, balance and wellness as educators and students navigate today’s connected world.

Students, staff and districts from throughout the Capital Region and northern New York, participate in Technology Awareness Day each year, where they share how technology is impacting their learning. More than 500 attendees from 16 school districts statewide are expected at this year’s event.

Technology Awareness Day, also known as “Tech A-Day,” showcases cutting-edge education technology innovations and discusses ways that schools can use technology to enhance instruction and streamline school district operations. Tech A-Day is hosted by NERIC, a division of Capital Region BOCES.
