Student Athletes Participate in Special Olympics at the Center for Disability Services

Students from the Langan School at the Center for Disability Services participated in Special Olympics competition on May 30. Events included basketball shooting, softball strike, running/walking, equipment propel, badminton, soccer and bowling. An aquatics portion of the Special Olympics took place previously in the Center’s pool.

Langan School students have been practicing for the Special Olympics for the past two months in their classrooms and during physical education class.

This version of the Special Olympics uses the NYS Special Olympics Motor Activity Training Program or MATP. This is a competition against oneself. During practice a baseline score is taken for the student’s elected event. The students are then required to beat that score on the day of the Special Olympics competition to receive a medal.
