Stewart’s Shops, Capital Region Chamber of Commerce To Be Honored By The Business Council
Stewart’s Shop and the Capital Region Chamber of Commerce will be honored by The Business Council of New York State at a September 22nd Annual Meeting dinner.
Stewart’s Shops, a Capital Region-based company, will receive the Father Peter Young Award. The award is presented to a company or individual who has demonstrated a strong commitment to giving back and serving their community. Stewart’s has more than 350 shops in 32 counties across New York and Vermont. Stewart’s Shops has provided $9 million in product and monetary donations to 6,500 organizations annually. Their Holiday Match Program raises money from the community and matches those funds collected. Last year, customers raised over $1 million, and Stewart’s Shops matched it to give $2 million to over 1,700 children’s organizations.
“We are honored to receive the Father Peter Young Award,” said Susan Dake, President of Stewart’s Foundation. “Stewart’s Shops believes in giving back to our shops’ communities as we recognize that we are only as strong as the communities we serve.”
The Capital Region Chamber of Commerce has been named the Chuck Steiner Memorial Chamber of the Year Award recipient. The Chamber of the Year is awarded to an outstanding organization and leadership team that makes doing business in New York State, a better experience for its members. The award is named in honor of Chuck Steiner, who had a stellar 37-year career leading the Niagara Falls Area Chamber, the Chamber of Schenectady County, and the Capital Region Chamber.
“We’re thrilled to be recognized as Chamber of the Year. This is a tribute to our collective impact made possible by the 2,700 member businesses who invest in our mission, with guidance from our board, and the daily dedication of our talented professional staff who work to build a stronger region for all,” said Capital Region Chamber President and CEO Mark Eagan. “The icing on the cake is that this prestigious award is named after our former leader and friend, Chuck Steiner.”
Additional Award Recipients – Corning Award / Member of the Year
Eric Mower, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Mower, has been named the recipient of the 2022 Corning Award for Excellence by The Business Council of New York State. The Business Council has presented the award in partnership with Corning Enterprises for 44 years. Previous recipients include G. Thomas Tranter, former President and Director of Community and Government Affairs for Corning Incorporated (2021), H. Carl McCall (2020), and former SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher (2019).
Charter Communications has been named The Business Council’s 2022 Member of the Year. Charter Communications has been a Business Council member since 2008, consistently participating in conference panels and discussions while also sponsoring many events, including those that provide valuable content and resources to women and other minority-owned businesses.
Chris Christie, 55th Governor of New Jersey and current Senior Legal and Political Commentator for ABC News, will deliver the keynote address at The Business Council’s Annual Meeting on September 22nd. Mr. Christie is currently the Managing Member of the Christie Law Firm and Christie 55 Solutions, LLC. Additionally, the former governor is the author of the New York Times bestseller Let Me Finish, a book about his life and career in New Jersey and as a candidate for President.
The Business Council’s Annual Meeting – Looking Forward
This year’s Annual Meeting will take place September 21 – 23 at The Sagamore Resort, Bolton Landing.
- The three-day event begins with a nine-hole golf tournament on Wednesday, September 21.
- Programming begins on Thursday, September 22, and will include various expert speakers focused on the 2022 election season at the state and federal levels.
- The event concludes Friday, September 23. The Business Council has invited several state-wide elected officials to speak at this year’s event.
