July 29, 2022Statement from the Chamber’s Mark Eagan on Passage of the Chips and Science Act in Congress
Below is a statement on the House’s passage of the Chips and Science bill, from Mark Eagan, president & CEO of the Center for Economic Growth and Capital Region Chamber
Now that the CHIPS and Science Act has been passed by Congress, the Capital Region is on a course from being a competitor in the global semiconductor industry to an undeniable leader. This legislation will help NYCREATES take R&D at the Albany Nanotech Complex to the next level, especially if it is designated the hub of the National Semiconductor Technology Center, and help GlobalFoundries expand chip production at the Luther Forest Technology Campus. The result will be thousands of jobs, new leading-edge innovation, a stronger regional economy, and a more robust domestic supply chain. Senator Schumer has relentlessly advocated for this bill and the Capital Region, and we are grateful for his leadership and dedication. We also want to thank Representative Tonko and Senator Gillibrand for their unwavering support of the Capital Region’s chip industry.
