Six New Shows Announced for Troy Music Hall 2017-2018 Season!

The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall Corporation is excited to announce six new additions to our 2017-2018 Season!

Tape Face

Thursday, October 12, 7:30 PM    Tickets: $27

Every once in a while, something magical reminds us that we all have an inner child that must be fed.

Through simple, clever and charming humor aimed at satisfying that hunger, Tape Face has created one of the most accessible and enjoyable shows the world has ever seen.

Mime with noise, stand-up with no talking – drama with no acting.  Tape Face has to be seen to be believed.

So what does he do exactly?  Well, simply mentioning any aspect of this diverse show would be a disservice – the less you know the more you will enjoy this show.

Tape Face is a character with universal appeal. Delightful, wry, many-layered and hilarious, he transcends the barriers of language and culture.

First introduced to America through the tv show America’s Got Talent.  You’ll laugh, you’ll scream and ultimately end up like Tape Face – lost for words.

Saturday, October 14, 7:30 PM     Tickets: $34, $28

Playing such classics as In The Mood, Chattanooga Choo Choo, A String of Pearls, Moonlight Serenade and Tuxedo Junction, the Glenn Miller Orchestra is the most sought after big band in the world today.  Bandleader Glenn Miller disappeared over the English Channel on a flight from London to Paris on December 15, 1944, at the height of his popularity.  Yet, over fifty-five years since the public first embraced the successful Glenn Miller Sound, both the legend and the music live on.

The Miller Estate formed the present orchestra in 1956 and the band, which includes two vocalists, has been touring consistently ever since, playing an average of 300 live dates a year around the globe.  With its unique, jazzy sound, it is considered one of the greatest bands of all time.  They are back at the Hall due to popular demand!

Bruce Hornsby (SOLO)

Saturday, October 21, 8 PM    Tickets: $48, $37, $30

Bruce Hornsby’s work displays a creative iconoclasm that’s been a constant in the artist’s two-and-a-half decade recording career. His commercial stock soared early on, when “The Way It Is”–the title track of his 1986 debut album–became one of the most popular songs on American radio. Despite his early mainstream successes, Hornsby has pursued a more personal, idiosyncratic musical path, focusing on projects that sparked his creative interest, including collaborations with the Grateful Dead, Spike Lee, Ricky Skaggs, Don Henley, Ornette Coleman, Bob Dylan, Bela Fleck, Bonnie Raitt, Pat Metheny, and Robbie Robertson. Hornsby’s performance will offer a glimpse of a restless spirit who continues to push forward into exciting new musical terrain.

Paco Peña

Saturday, October 22, 3 PM      Tickets:  $34

Paco Peña embodies authenticity and innovation in flamenco guitar – don’t miss his return to the Hall with special guest, guitarist Rafael Montilla!

Paco Peña  – as a guitarist, composer, dramatist, producer and artistic mentor he has transformed perceptions of this archetypal Spanish art form.

Born in the Andalucian city of Córdoba, Paco Peña began learning guitar from his brother at the age of six and made his first professional appearance at the age of 12. In the late 1960s he left Spain for London, where his recitals of flamenco music captured the public imagination.

In 1995 The New York Times declared that: “Mr Peña is a virtuoso, capable of dazzling an audience beyond the frets of mortal man. He combines rapid-fire flourishes with a colorist’s sense of shading; this listener cannot recall hearing any guitarist with a more assured mastery of his instrument.” It should come as no surprise that readers of America’s Guitar magazine judged Paco Peña as best flamenco guitarist of the year for five consecutive years.

Performing with Paco will be Rafael Montilla, whose love and enthusiasm for flamenco and especially the guitar began when he learned his first chords at 3 years old and he began performing at festivals with his father throughout Spain.

Rafael is now renowned as a guitarist accompanying vocalists throughout Andalusia, with the likes of Calixto Sánchez, Carmen Linares, El Pele. In 1995 he moves to Madrid and premieres his first musical composition “Fire and Flamenco” with the Antonio Marques Company at the Apollo Theater in Madrid. Rafael’s next production is as music director for the production “Carmen” by Bizet which he premiered in Rio de Janeiro with the Brasilia Orchestra. It was named best dance show at the Festival de Jerez in 2000, it toured Italy, Panama, Brazil, Germany and Spain.

Rosanne Cash with John Leventhal

In BLACK LIST RIVER Rosanne Cash offers a sweeping song cycle culled from her award-winning southern and soul trilogy of works Black Cadillac (2006), The List (2009) and The River and The Thread (2014). BLACK LIST RIVER celebrates the American experience and what is at the heart of Rosanne’s journey as a songwriter and singer, her devotion to her southern roots and family lineage. Rosanne Cash, a four time Grammy-winner and a member the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, has recorded fifteen albums and has charted twenty-one top forty country singles, eleven of which reached number one. In addition to continual touring, Cash has partnered in programming collaborations with Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, San Francisco Jazz, The Country Music Hall of Fame, Minnesota Orchestra and The Library of Congress.  A Chicago Tribune reviewer describes Composed, her 2010 memoir, as “one of the best accounts of an American life you will likely ever read.” She is “a storyteller and singer of exceptional grace and grit” (Boston Globe).
