University at Albany President Robert J. Jones today announced that Simeon Ananou, D.Ed., will join UAlbany as Vice President for Information and Technology Services and CIO, effective February 1, 2016.
Ananou brings 19 years of administrative experience in higher education to his new position and credits his professional journey as shaping him into a student-focused leader with an appreciation for campus communities, systems, processes and decisions driven by data analytics.
“As we continue to advance the University’s largest academic expansion in 50 years, we must build an innovative, strong technology infrastructure,” said Jones. “Simeon has the right experience, expertise, and values to help us meet our goals—and I look forward to working closely with him as UAlbany emerges as a leading public research university.”
Ananou comes to UAlbany from Salisbury University, Maryland, where he served as chief information officer and adjunct faculty in information and decision sciences. He was responsible for the strategic oversight of IT and Communication infrastructure, as well as academic and administrative information systems and business intelligence for the campus. He has also served as associate provost at Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania; chief information officer at Piedmont Virginia Community College; and director of information technology operations at Ashland University in Ohio.
Ananou earned a D.Ed. in Administration and Leadership Studies from Indiana University of Pennsylvania; an MBA in Computer Information Systems from Barker College, Flint, Michigan; and a BA in International Relations from The Ohio State University.
“I am honored and excited to join the UAlbany team, as it presents a wonderful opportunity for me to unleash the power of information technology to enable change and contribute to advancing the University’s mission,” said Ananou. “I look forward to becoming a member of the Capital Region community and collaborating with key stakeholders to establish a strategic direction for the use of information technology to enhance the UAlbany experience.”
