Siena beat Saint Peter’s for the 23rd straight time Sunday and ran its season-long win streak to five with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-23 and 25-16) sweep in the ARC. The victory, coupled with a Rider loss at Marist, gives Siena sole possession of first place in the conference.
Haley Howell wrapped up a phenomenal week with 32 assists, 13 digs, three kills and three blocks.
The Peacocks (3-19, 1-11) gave a game effort, staying in the first two sets until very late.
Briana Flagg led all players with 13 kills and completed her 10th double-double of the season with 10 digs. Flagg’s backrow kill gave the Saints a key 25-23 win in the second set and control of the match.
Howell had her 11th double-double of the season. The Saints used several new rotations, and the junior setter did a masterful job of spreading the ball and keeping everyone involved.
Kiara Pierre and Bobbi Lin Kalama each had two aces for the Saints. Pierre ignited a 10-0 run in the third set that gave the Saints a commanding 23-11 lead.
Erin Bies also served well, and she reached double figures in digs for the fourth time in six matches. The Saints owned a 58-47 advantage in digs, and out-hit Saint Peter’s .216-.102.
Freshman Darby Taylor had another strong match, finishing seven of her 21 swings without a single error.
The Saints are back in action for a rare midweek MAAC match at Quinnipiac Wednesday before an important conference weekend at Manhattan and Iona.
