Siena Names Megan Van Tatenhove New Academic Advisor

Megan Van TatenhoveMegan Van Tatenhove is the new athletic academic advisor at Siena College. Van Tatenhove earned her undergraduate and master’s degrees from St. Bonaventure, where she spent the last two years as a student athlete academic coordinator.

“Megan is a tremendous addition to our academic support services at Siena,” associate director of athletics and senior woman administrator Lori Anctil said. “As a former standout Division I athlete, she understands the unique demands of our student athletes. Her work with the athletic academic support team at St. Bonaventure, coupled with her her understanding of the long-standing academic success of Siena’s student athletes, make her the perfect fit.”

As academic coordinator at St. Bonavneture, Van Tatenhove had many of the same responsibilities she will overtake at Siena. She was charged with providing academic support and counseling to at-risk students, creating customized intervention plans for struggling students, overseeing study hall and student mentors, and monitoring academic progress. She also helped supervise St. Boanventure’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee, assisted in the recruitment of select prospective student athletes, helped arrange academic excellence recognition programming, and co-taught a university foundational class providing study tips to freshman.

“I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity Siena has given me,” Van Tatenhove said. “Siena is an athletically gifted school, and it takes special pride in the academic achievements of its student athletes. I look forward to continuing to build upon the long tradition of student athlete’s academic excellence here, and becoming a part of the Siena family.”

Siena student athletes have consistently ranked among the nation’s elite universities in graduation rates. The department has posted a 94.8% average graduation success rate in the first 10 years of NCAA reporting. Hundreds of student athletes are recognized annually for their individual achievements in the classroom, and many programs have received public recognition from the NCAA for their academic progress.

Van Tatenhove was a four-year letterwinner and two-time captain for the St. Bonaventure women’s basketball program. The Bonnies went 31-4 and advanced to the regional round of the NCAA Tournament her senior season in 2012. Van Tatenhove was named to the Atlantic 10 First Team and Academic Team as a senior, the A-10 Second Team and Academic Team as a junior and A-10 Honorable Mention as a sophomore. She became the ninth member of the Bonnies’ 1,000-point, 500-rebound club during her historic final season.

Van Tatenhove earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 2012, and her master’s degree in education, childhood literacy in 2015.
