Shenendehowa Board Votes to Accept Land and Building Donation from DCG Development

The Shenendehowa Board of Education has approved a resolution to accept a charitable donation from Donald Greene, President of DCG development to acquire 5 Maxwell Drive, Clifton Park, NY, 12065, a 150,000 square foot building on approximately 11 acres of land. If approved by voters, the facility will be reconstructed to:

  • Create a full-day kindergarten center
  • Enhance pre-K provisions
  • Provide space for center-based Special Education
  • Provide expanded space for professional development
  • Move District Office Services: Human Resources, Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education, Food Services, Business and Finance, Superintendent’s Office- eliminating the need for the current facility and creating opportunity to sell and proceeds used to offset renovation of newly acquired facility
  • Provide space for Central Warehouse-eliminate the need and cost for current space
  • Provide space for Information Management Services and applicable personnel and inventory

Acquiring the building will free up space in existing buildings that could be used for additional student programming

Since selling the land behind Shatekon, Shenendehowa has explored various options to offer full-day kindergarten and position the district the future growth including:

  • Assessing capacity of existing buildings
  • Modifying and expanding current existing buildings
  • Purchasing land to construct a new K-5 elementary school
  • Purchasing land to construct a new Kindergarten Center

Each option was either not possible, extremely expensive or would take a very long time to complete.

“This donation is a game changer,” says Superintendent Dr. L. Oliver Robinson. “It provides the space to meet so many needs, solving many current issues and providing capacity for years to come.”
