June 5, 2020SEFCU Awards $50,000 in Scholarships
High school and college students throughout the Capital Region, Syracuse, Binghamton, and Buffalo were awarded a total of $50,000 in scholarships this week by SEFCU as part of the credit union’s annual scholarship program.
Students’ applications are evaluated based on academic achievements, leadership positions held, a written essay, and community service. This year, SEFCU scholarship recipients completed almost 14,000 hours of volunteer service in their communities.
The scholarships were awarded in an online celebration with attendees from across the state.
SEFCU awarded the following scholarships to a total of 41 individuals.

$2,500 Jean L. Myers Memorial Scholarship: in memory of past board member, awarded to one high school student planning to pursue a business degree
Charlotte Snyder, Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School
$2,500 Dr. Carmen Cornute Memorial Scholarship: in memory of the wife of a past board member, awarded to one student pursuing an advanced degree in nursing

$2,500 Robert Cornute Memorial Scholarship: in memory of past board member, awarded to one high school student who demonstrates a commitment to diversity and inclusion efforts
Paige Lewis, Academy of Holy Names
$1,000 Campus Connect Scholarship: awarded to one current college student studying anywhere in the country
