Second Chance Opportunities Partners with Organizations to Help Place People in Recovery

Second Chance Opportunities, Inc. is a non-profit located in Albany, NY. Our organization is dedicated to working with people who are in recovery from substance use disorder and their family members. We bridge the gap between treatment and a life centered in recovery.

We provide ongoing supportive services including recovery coaching, financial rehabilitation, medical referrals, housing, employment opportunities and much more. We work to overcome any barriers a person may be experiencing. Since 2011 SCO has been employing people in recovery to work on numerous janitorial contracts through out the capital district. Currently we have 30 contracts including, the Albany Police Department, Albany Judicial Center, the Adirondack Welcome Center, Department Environmental Conservation and Schenectady Workers Compensation. Through these contracts we employee 85 people, 79 of whom are people in recovery from substance use disorder.

In 2019, Second Chance Opportunities opened an OASAS funded Recovery Community and Outreach Center which has allowed an expansion of services including sober activities and additional supports to people in recovery, their families and friends.

In 2020, the Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) is offering up to a $2,000 tax credit to any employer that pays corporate finance tax. Second Chance Opportunities is partnering with organizations to help place people in recovery at organizations interested in receiving the tax credit. SCO will work to ensure the organizations are prepared to meet the necessary requirements and that individuals in recovery continue to receive additional supports, ensuring success during their employment. If your organization is interested, please contact our administrative office at 518-489-1929. The time frame to register with OASAS to becoming an eligible employer closes mid-January. If you are unable to employ a person in recovery this year but would like to support the recovery community, we are always working to expand our janitorial contracts so we can hire more people in recovery. Estimates are free and can be scheduled by calling 518-489-1929.
