Second Annual Schenectady Soup Stroll Gets Ready to Heat Up Downtown

Twenty-five participating restaurants throughout Downtown Schenectady will dish up delicious hot soup for visitors during the 2nd Annual Schenectady Soup Stroll on Saturday, January 28 from Noon to 5:00 p.m. To enjoy the Soup Stroll, guests can pick up an event map at any participating location and stroll from restaurant to restaurant to sample unique soup recipes for $1.00 per 3 oz. cup.

Jim Salengo, Executive Director of the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation (DSIC), said, “Soup is the ideal winter comfort food, so we invite everyone to come downtown this Saturday for a fun afternoon of sampling and socializing. Last January’s inaugural Soup Stroll was planned and turned around very quickly, and we were thrilled that it drew an estimated crowd of 3,000 people to 16 participating restaurants. Thanks to extremely positive word of mouth since last year and nine additional participants this year, we anticipate an even greater turnout for 2017.”

Bill McDonald, owner of Mad Jack Brew Pub at the Van Dyck, said, “Downtown is really building momentum as a destination for popular annual food events like the Soup Stroll, Wing Walk and Chili Chowdown. For this year’s Soup Stroll, we are partnering with Schenectady County Community’s College’s Craft Beer Brewing certificate program and using beer brewed by graduates in our Loaded Pale Ale Potato Soup. It’s another way for us to showcase the many great things Downtown Schenectady has to offer.”
