Scholar Celebration Raises More than $46,000 for Local Students

Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar announced that its 2018 Scholar Celebration on June 6th raised more than $46,000 for college access programs for students in Albany, Schenectady and Troy.

The event, presented by Brown Weinraub, highlighted the accomplishments of Sponsor-A-Scholar’s college-bound students in the Class of 2018. The organization also presented the New York State Business Development Corporation and the New York State Society of CPAs with the 2018 Founders’ Award, to honor their commitment to creating career pathways for young people interested in the business and accounting professions.

More than 260 guests were in attendance when Kaweeda Adams, the Albany City Schools Superintendent delivered the keynote address, and Troy High School graduate and RPI alumnus Jay Yaskanich gave the alumni speech.

Robin Christenson, executive director, highlighted the importance of the event and the funds raised: “The outpouring of support for our Scholars and our programs was record-breaking. It is inspiring to see that our community has rallied around our Scholars and is willing to invest in their futures.”

Funds raised from the event will support college access and success programs for more than 200 high school and college Scholars.
