Schenectady Rotary’s Charity Cornhole Tournament to Benefit Local School

Schenectady Rotary’s “Cornhole for a Cause”, a tournament to benefit Schenectady City Schools Community Schools Initiative begins at 9 AM on Sunday, July 9,  in the Rivers Casino and Resort Event Space, Mohawk Harbor, Schenectady. Adirondack Cornhole is hosting and managing this American Cornhole League (ACL) Regional Tournament. The event includes cornhole play for singles and doubles from all levels – novice to pro, with trophies and cash prizes, entertainment by DJ Cassius, fun and valuable raffles, auctions, and a cash bar. Admission $5 at the door plus registration fees for players.

The Schenectady City Schools Community Schools Initiative provides students and their families access to medical and mental health services, food, clothing, childcare, transportation, and enrichment programs. The goal of this Schenectady Rotary project is to prepare a community resource room at William C. Keane Elementary School on Albany Street in Schenectady. From new paint to comfortable furniture to appliances, the vision for the new resource room is as a homey environment and gathering place for neighborhood families before and after regular school hours.

“We sponsored a small tournament last year and found cornhole to be a popular way to raise funds for a good cause,” said Event Chair and incoming Schenectady Rotary President Lisa Jackson, “So we expanded last years’ experience. We envision the more ambitious tournament to become a signature “destination” event, attracting players, their families, and spectators from near and far while embracing a new caring and unique support resource for local families.”

Two of several raffles created in conjunction with the Cornhole event and are already on sale. The winner of the first drawing takes home a wheelbarrow, donated by Curtis Lumber, and filled with a wide variety of Wolf Hollow Brewing Company beers. Another lucky ticket holder will win a set of Wicked Cornhole Beast Boards valued at $450.  Both raffle tickets are now on sale online. Raffle tickets will be sold right up to and during the Cornhole for a Cause fund raiser on Sunday, July 9th. One does not need to be present to win.
