Saratoga National Historical Park and Saratoga 250 join in commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Marquis de Lafayette’s 1825 visit to Schuylerville on Sunday, June 29. The event begins at the Champlain Canal Gateway Visitor Center (31 Ferry St, Schuylerville) at 12:30 pm and proceeds along the historic Old Champlain Canal Towpath to the Schuyler Estate. This optional short and symbolic walk is meant to reflect Lafayette’s historic route through the village.
At 1:00 pm, a commemorative program on the grounds of the Schuyler Estate featuring Park Rangers, heritage groups, and local historians will remember Lafayette’s Visit. Although the stop in Schuylerville was a brief one, Lafayette’s 1824-1825 tour reignited interest in the American Revolution as large crowds greeted him wherever he went. Speakers will share stories about the visit, Lafayette himself, and his contributions to the creation of the United States.
