May 12, 2016Sara Hall Commits to Run 6/4 Freihofer’s Run for Women 5k
With just over three weeks to go until the 38th edition of the Freihofer’s Run for Women, event organizers today confirmed that Sara Hall (Redding, CA), one of America’s premier distance runners, will vie for the prestigious 5K crown and accompanying $10,000 first place purse on Saturday, June 4 in Albany, N.Y. Sara Hall of Ft Collins, CO.
Hall, 32, a former All-American at Stanford University, is the 2012 US National Cross-Country Champion and a gold medalist at the Pan American Games in the steeplechase. She represented the US at three World Indoor Track and Field Championships and a World Cross-Country Championship and boasts a personal best of 15:20.88 at 5,000 meters.
Sara is married to Ryan Hall, who posted the best-ever American times in the half marathon and marathon and has represented the US in the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games.
“I am thrilled to compete at the Freihofer’s Run for Women,” said Hall, who ran a PB at last month’s Virgin Money London Marathon (2:30:06) following a disappointing Olympic Marathon Trials. “This year I’ll be bringing my daughter Hana and we’ll get to experience this race together in the mother/daughter competition. Competing against a world-class field — and having my daughter run — will make for a very special weekend. I look forward to being part of this amazing event.”
Hana Hall, 15, is one of four sisters Sara and her husband recently adopted from Ethiopia after spending significant time training in east Africa.
“Freihofer’s is thrilled to have Sara commit to being part of the elite field at this year’s Freihofer’s,” said Elite Athlete Recruiter John Tope, who is concentrating on solidifying the event’s American field as the road race prepares to make a bid for the USA Women’s 5K Championship starting in 2017. “It is thrilling to see athletes of Sara’s caliber want to be part of this race.”
