Sage’s Kimberly Fredericks to Present at Startup Grind

Kimberly Fredericks_2ALBANY, NY – The Sage Colleges is proud to announce that Kimberly Fredericks, Ph.D., MPA, RD, Professor and Associate Dean of the School of Management and Chair of Graduate Programs at The Sage Colleges, will present at Albany’s next Startup Grind event on Wednesday, May 27, 2014 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Overit Media located at 435 New Scotland Avenue in Albany.

Fredericks is the driver behind the Sage MBA program and has been the leading force behind expanding The Sage Colleges’ reach to the Saratoga Springs community by making its MBA program available at HVCC’s Malta TEC-SMART location. She has expertise in social network analysis and evaluation within the public and nonprofit healthcare sectors and has consulted for many groups. Her work has appeared in New Directions for Evaluation and the American Journal of Evaluation. Recently, Fredericks was a co-PI for a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Grant and a grant from the University of Kentucky Public Health Service Center.

Fredericks brings a unique and entrepreneurial approach to leading Sage’s School of Management and educating future entrepreneurs and business leaders which she will discuss during her presentation.  We need to change the way we educate college students,” explains Fredericks. “No longer can just building blocks of tools like accounting or marketing be taught almost independently without the ability to test and integrate these concepts. We need to allow students to have entrepreneurial thinking, to be entrepreneurs in their own careers. We as educators need to allow students to take risks, to fail in a controlled and safe environment early on in their college careers so they can learn to pivot and make the most out of their learning and experience.”

Startup Grind was founded by Derek Anderson and Spencer Nielsen in February 2010 in Mountain View, California. It is a global startup community powered by Google for Entrepreneurs and is designed to educate, inspire, and connect entrepreneurs. Startup Grind hosts monthly events in more than 150 cities and 65 countries featuring successful local founders, innovators, educators and investors who share personal stories and lessons learned on the road to building great companies.
