Sage Welcomes Stephen Gottlieb to Speak about The Roberts Court and the Breakdown of American Politics

stephen-gottliebThe Sage Colleges will host Stephen Gottlieb, LL.B., the Jay and Ruth Caplan Distinguished Professor at Albany Law School, on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. in Bush Memorial Center on its Russell Sage campus in Troy.  Gottlieb will deliver the 2016 Sherman David Spector Lecture “Unfit for Democracy: The Roberts Court and the Breakdown of American Politics.”  Gottlieb argues that constitutional law without a focus on the future of democratic government is incoherent and dangerous. Approaching the decisions of the Roberts Court from political science, historical, comparative and legal perspectives, Gottlieb will discuss the clash between the decisions of the Roberts Court and the evidence about what leads democracies to fail.

The lecture is free and open to the public and will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Bush Memorial Center on the Russell Sage College campus in Troy.  Members of the media are also welcome.  Professor Gottlieb will be available for comment.
